Alzheimer’s Society are focussing on raising awareness of the symptoms of dementia and the benefits of getting a diagnosis. Diagnosis is vital to give people access to the care, treatment and support they desperately need. Yet, incredibly, 1 in 3 people with dementia do not have a diagnosis. Dementia Action Week is an awareness raising campaign. Each year, Alzheimer’s Society works with individuals and organisations across the UK to encourage people to act on dementia. Dementia Friends sessions are an incredibly helpful resource in raising awareness of dementia symptoms. Dementia Friends Ambassador Rob recalled a poignant moment from a session: “I delivered a session to a Year 12 class. After learning about the different symptoms of dementia in the Session, one of the students noticed that their Grandad was experiencing these symptoms and so their family sought a diagnosis and were able to get care and support for him.” How can you help? Please encourage friends and family to join Alzheimers UK and become a Dementia Friends. Dementia Friends are vital in our mission to raise awareness and support people with dementia, during Dementia Action Week and all year long! |
