Our first contact physiotherapists help patients with musculoskeletal problems (joints, bones and muscles). They assess, diagnose and treat these patients.
Patients can refer themselves to first contact physiotherapists. They do not need a referral from their GP. This helps patients get treatment more quickly.
Alternatively, GPs may refer patients to a PCN First Contact Practitioner who are physiotherapists, qualified autonomous clinical practitioners who can assess, diagnose, treat, and manage musculoskeletal problems and undifferentiated conditions.
They can establish a rapid and accurate diagnosis and management plan to streamline pathways of care. First contact practitioner physiotherapists working in this role can be accessed via referral from GPs.
